Kruti Kartik is a sophomore at Hillsborough High School in New Jersey. She was captivated by Indian Classical music and dance from her toddler years. Her first step into the world of music was through the bhajans that she would sing as a toddler.
Kruti started her formal training in Bharatanatyam at an early age from Guru Bala Devi Chandrashekar. She then joined the Nrithyanjali Institute of Dance under the tutelage of Kalaimamani Ramya Ramnarayan to advance her training to the next level.
Under Ramya Aunty (as Kruti affectionately addresses her), Kruti has learnt much more than just padams or varnams. She has experienced first-hand, how her Guru has literally taken an Indian art form to diverse audiences, ranging from elementary school children to established artists. Kruti is inspired by Ramya Aunty’s ability to adapt her performance to any occasion, while staying true to traditional repertoire.
Along with Bharatanatyam, Kruti is passionate about Carnatic music. Gurus Sudha Ramakrishnan and Dr. Padma Sugavanam have shaped Kruti into a performer of Carnatic vocal music. Kruti has learnt the skills of playing the Saraswati Veena from Guru Bhuvana Kannan. Kruti has won awards in prestigious competitions such as Cleveland Aradhana and CMANA NJ and was selected by Somerset County to perform at the New Jersey Teen Arts Festival.
Kruti is very eager to continue her journey in Bharatanatyam under the guidance of Guru Ramya Ramnarayan after her arangetram.
Kruti is part of Hillsborough High School’s Color Guard and Winter Guard teams that have won many competitions in New Jersey and the Tri-state area.
At the very core, the strong values imbibed by the Sri Sathya Sai Spiritual Educare program, along with the ever-loving Bridgewater Sai Center family, are Kruti’s guideposts for life.
